5 ways to start a business & transition on a low budget
Being creative with money is an acquired skill and can help you transition with ease
from a job to a business, or moving house or after a break up, hear are some tips and tricks to get you started
It’s not easy as a start up business, perhaps even harder for someone in the service sector to transition from a job or starting again in a new country in a business that does not have an easily definable immediate result.
There are lots of logical ideas about how to build your business with marketing videos and advertising, some very pushy, in your face and feel so salesy. I hate that and when I started I found that hard. Because of that I found there are alternative ways to get support, build a new network in a gentle way, make your mark and understand the needs of your audience. Co-working is one of them. It’s a new approach on how to jump start your business, market your ideas or products, get feedback, experiment, adjust, create contacts and a way to find more work life balance.
When I came to Australia I had to start business all over again. I had a business network in France, however I wanted to get involved in the local community and build a new network to boost my success. One of the mistakes I made in France was not acknowledging how much others could offer and assist my growth, thinking that I could do it alone. Australia taught me how to let go of that belief and learn to receive. It is also another culture and way of living and I had to let go of thinking it would work the same as France. Learn to do the same same but different.
Allow yourself to receive in delicious and delightful ways. Trust you can be guided
If you are stuck, blocked or struggling alone in business as an entrepreneur, perhaps its time to find support to gain a new perspective. It can be lonely on your own, a great way to boost yourself is to think about joining a local coworking space or networking group. As a solo entrepreneur we can often feel isolated, working from home with no boss or collegues like in a job, to recognise or tell us that we are doing well. Your family can help, however they don’t always know how. I highly recommend coworking as a way to get recognition, advance or promote yourself and grow your business. It is a simple concept that can play a key role as a budding entrepreneur to inspire you to keep going and get out of your comfort zone.
Figures show 40% of the workforce will be freelancers, contractors or solo entrepreneurs by 2020.
The idea of coworking was developed in 2005 for those working solo to get out of isolation and share ideas projects and support whilst offering a solution to rent cheaper office space. There are now approximately 14,000 around the world, providing a place to collaborate, network as well as access to events funding and forums. Coworking can boost your motivation, create opportunities and support you to find your confidence to evolve. They offer so much if you use them in the right way by being part of the culture and building the relationships.
“I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things”.
I had the privilege of obtaining some funding to join and become a member of a coworking space in Geraldton, City Hive – Pollinators. Can you believe the small metropolis of Geraldton 4 hours north of Perth with only 41,000 inhabitants has a coworking space. I was shocked when I tumbled across it exploring my new hometown.
I felt lucky to have found this new place. What I love about pollinators is I have the best of everything I am aspiring to. Their concept is to create local identity and add value to entrepreneurs. They are innovative and forward thinking. Australia is so vast and big it needs innovation in the small townships, and coworking is the link that brings the people out of the woodwork, and so far it looks like they are doing a great job. Established since 7 years Pollinators, City Hive, as its name portrays, is a hive of activity and so welcoming. I have an office space where I actually come and feel like I am creating more purpose and the right mindset to work. Boosting my productivity. I have the beach on my doorstep so nature to take a break, time out and get reinspired with ideas. I then have other people to bounce my ideas off of and the locals that seem to encourage, support, help me thrive and are so kind. I have learnt so much since being with them on how to develop my business in a new place with what the locals need and not just what I think they want.
It’s the concept of unity that I love. The joining together, to gather and create
Moving from France to try my luck in this beautiful country, it has been a wonderful way to meet likeminded people and create some networking for my business. I have found that by joining this group I have achieved in 2 years what I did in 5 years in France and supported some great businesses in Geraldton. The reason is the power of support, meeting similar people, in similar situations to me, allowing me to share my struggles and joy and get input, advice and encouragement on the different stages in my business. It’s been a way of saving time and money.
This quote from Mother Theresa says it all “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things”. Sometimes we can be too involved in our own thoughts not able to find the inspiration or objectivity to see what is or isn’t working in our own business, we can go round and round in circles trying to find an alternative perspective when instead other people have the ideas and solutions that you haven’t thought of. That’s part of the creative process connecting to others and learning how to ask for help. As a way of contributing to their space I set up a “Morning tea for me” to collaborate on ideas, a way to support people to discuss and exchange about their struggles. I was amazed at what a boost for everybody it was not to have to work things out alone. It’s the diversity and mix of cultures that allow this.So change your thoughts about how you do business. Get out of your comfort zone, so you can have a thriving business instead of struggling alone? Get out and allow yourself to share with others hear their feedback, create more contacts, instead of giving up. It could just be the transformation you need, for yourself, for your business and for your mindset.
Please let me know how I can support you in your business or life to uplevel your ideas, would love to hear your feedback.
